Happy Birthday to my brother..

November 29 is my beloved brother's special day. Being first time celebrating his birthday away from home, I made him a special birthday cake. Hmm, or i shouldn't even call it a cake..

Picnik collage 2

It's a mini cupcake-sized cheesecake. I prepared this as I know that his friends will definitely get him a cake or two. I'm pretty sure he'll be delighted of not having another birthday cake. So I chose this. As you can see in the picture, I decorated the cheesecake with blackcurrant jam toppings. On top of the toppings, I have some wordings made from icing sugar while the others I used cherries. I din't make the wordings myself. I bought the ready made one from supermarket. Something simple, different and not too much :)

Happy Birthday Jonathan Loh!

Thank YOU for being such a lovable, wonderful and caring brother. Without you, my life is a totally different story and I wouldn't want that. Having you in my life means a complete family, a fun and exciting journey and a never-ending lesson. You have been there for me during difficulties and especially when our parents were mad at me for doing something wrong. You've always backed me up and keep me company. I love fighting or debating with you. I love dancing with you. I love watching movie or tv with you. I love cooking with you. I love sleeping with you. I LOVE YOU!!!

Happy Birthday to my love ♥

The man's birthday was on last friday. Days before that, I ran through 3 cake trials before i bake the actual one for his birthday. I was so worried that the cake would not turn out well if i did not practice it a few times beforehand. Results from it, I'm so sick of baking a chocolate cake now. Gotta wait a while before I'm gonna bake another chocolate cake.

Chocolate Mocha Cake; which i bake two of the cake and have melted chocolate in between. I used dark choc all the way. Ended up, it was too chocolaty for him :P
2 layers of choc mocha cake surrounded by dark choc.

We went for fine dining at night, Red Cabbage the restaurant. The service was pretty good, the waitress was really friendly and attentive, she knew her stuff well. And most importantly, she remembered that it was for his birthday. She greeted him once she met us.

Us before heading out for dinner :)

The ambiance is good too. I love that it's spacious, with dim light and candles on all tables, and it's kinda relaxing. We can chat freely and happily without the need of reminding ourselves to keep our voice down. For the food, I find it incredible except for the desserts, it somewhat does not fit my taste bud. We had mixed selection of oysters as starters, which i tried the tempura oyster, killpatrick and the spanish chorizo while he had the natural osyter with lime, red wine vinegar and watermelon and veuve granita oyster. I love the tempura osyter the most and many tables ordered that too.

For first course, I had the seared king scallops, crab, scallions, chilli black linguini . It was beautifully done and taste amazing.
He had some raviolli dish which i din't like it. But he thought that it was good.
In between, we had complimentary soup, potato & leek soup which was good as well. It's rich but not too much and the potato and leek tasted really well together.
Checking out wine menu but we dint have any that night.

For our main, I had salmon, fish of the day and he had roasted fillet of beef. The salmon was absolutely perfect. The skin was crispy while the meat will melt in your mouth. The pea puree taste amazingly delicous together with the salmon. I can't stop letting out ohh's and ahh's.
The man had his beef fillet which he raved about. However, he thinks that the portion was a tad bit too little for him as he wasn't full even after dessert. And mind you he had half of my salmon. I was feeling full after my first course :P Come to the desserts, we din't have any tough time choosing it as we ordered the miniature of Red Cabbage's fine desserts which had almost everything in there. They had this happy birthday greeting in the dessert for him :) There's altogether 7 pieces of it.

Too bad, i din't like any of it but the man liked most of it :S Overall, i think the food worth the price that we paid for, with the great service, lovely atmosphere and warm greetings. Mostly, I'm so delighted that the man enjoyed the dinner and actually love it. Big smile on my face :)

After dinner, we went back to his place and had the cake that I bake for him. We were so full by then plus the cake was too rich, so in the end we only had 2 pieces of it :P

On saturday night, the man invited his friends over for dinner/his bday celebration. He's the chef again! He prepared something like a casual fine dining for his friends, started with entree, main and ends with desserts. It was a dress up party and we have a few themes such as super cartoon, gangsta, farm animals, and gym attire. The man and his bestie dressed up as gangstas and they actually bought toy guns for it. it was hilarious. Too bad i din't take any photos that night. It was also where i met this lil kid, Max. He was so adorable and he asked if i'm going home with him. Awww.. wish i could babaysit him :)

The man's last bday celebration was on sunday. He invited another group of friends over for lunch and he cooked again. Another casual fine-dining and everyone asked the same question 'have you been watching master chef?' lol. The man's cooking is getting so much better. I'm not sure if i should consider myself lucky. Not that I don't like it but i wish i could cook better than him :P

Babe, happy blessed birthday. This is the first time we celebrated each others birthday. Glad that you enjoyed every bit of it and may all your wishes come true. Love ya heaps.
